The overall situation in Iraq is getting worse. On the one hand, it is the Iranian Regime that would try to govern the country through its Quds Force and some domestic puppets such as Talebani, Barezani and Al-Maleki. On the other hand, it is Saudi Arabia, Qatar and some other Arab countries in the region that would try to seize the power in Iraq by supporting every fundamentalist Sunni group.
The struggle of power between these external and internal actors has created a devastating and chaotic environment in Iraq. The recent event that Sunni fundamentalist militants took full control of Mosul, indicates the fact that the tension in Iraq has intensified and entered in a new phase; a new phase that would impact not only Iraq itself, but also would cause extra problems for all neighboring countries in different terms. The existence and combination of two civil wars with such a scale in both Syria and Iraq is something, which should neither be underestimated nor ignored.
This is the time that the United Nations should fulfill its responsibility. As such, i believe the United Nations should deploy its Peacekeeping Force to Iraq as soon as possible; of course, if the international community would like to help the poor Iraqi people. But, if the UN or some powerful members of the Security Council would like to use the current situation, in order to push the Iranian Regime, the UN can close its eyes to all these horrific events in Iraq and remain reluctant. (Although on the contrary, this event could be used as a good opportunity to dismantle the Iranian Regime in Iraq to some extent).
