If the conflict in Egypt intensifies and the country slides into a civil war, Iran would probably fuel the civil war from different angles by helping and supporting the Muslim Brotherhood and some other Shiite groups in Egypt. By this move, Iran would pursue some goals as follows:
1- By supporting the Muslim Brotherhood (Although this entity is Sunni), Iran would cause an extra problem and barrier for Saudi Arabia in the region.
2- A civil war in Egypt, to some extent, would divert part of the mind of the Western countries and the International community from Syria into Egypt. This issue would also be beneficial for Iran with regard to its nuclear activity and bargaining with the West.
3- Moreover and importantly, we should bear in mind that Iran has been trying to increase its influence around the Gulf of Aden and Suez Canal countries, since many years ago. Regarding this issue, we should pay attention to Iran`s activities in Yemen, Djibouti, Eritrea, Somalia, and Sudan in the last couple of years.
